“Art Spiegelman called me up — there was an apartment available next to him — and his girlfriend at that time became one of our stars … I saw her and I said, ‘That woman has potential to be in a movie,’ and my friends were nuts about her also, so we made her a star. In a way it helped break them up because she got involved with another guy who was a producer of one of our pictures. But it helped Art because he moved out of there; he left and he found a new woman with a printing press … I like working in panels, I always liked putting things in boxes, and so the comix thing was real good, plus it’s a combination of like movies, with titles and stuff …”
